134 Two-Year-Olds cataloged for the John Franks Memorial Sale at Evangeline Downs Opelousas, LA - March 11, 2011 - Veteran Sales administrator Stemmans Inc. has cataloged a total of 134 youngsters for the 2011 edition of the John Franks Memorial Two-Year-Old in Training Sale at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino. The Sale, now in its ninth year is scheduled for Sunday, March 20, beginning at 10:00 am Central time and will once again be held in the Evangeline Downs Event Center located adjacent to the racing paddock. In addition, there will be a Preview Gallop Show on Saturday, March 19, which will begin at Noon Central time. Both the Sale and the Preview Gallop Show are free and open to the public. Charlotte Stemmans Clavier, President of Stemmans, Inc., Administrator for the Sale, states “Despite the current economy, we are cautiously optimistic about this year’s sale. While the majority of the youngsters are Registered Louisiana Bred Horses, there are also several up for auction from Kentucky, Texas, and New York. Clavier added “I truly believe this year’s Sale has something for everyone, with the racino infused purses and with the turf course now in place at Evangeline Downs, the consignors have responded with an overall upgrade in quality as well as the introduction of some serious turf oriented stallions and broodmare families which in my opinion will give the horsemen more options as they look to restock and retool their respective stables in preparation for the upcoming Spring/Summer meet at Evangeline Downs.” Clavier also stated “Last year’s Sale featured a total of 134 two-year-olds that were sold for a total of $1,045,700 an average of $7,803.73. And with what we feel is a very attractive catalog for buyers to choose from we are optimistic of surpassing those totals.” As in past years, the Sale, named for the late Eclipse Award winning Owner/Breeder offers a pair of $60,000 races to be held at Evangeline Downs that are restricted to two-year-olds who pass through the sales ring.
