OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JAN. 20, 2012 - Heritage Place kicked off the 3-day Winter Mixed Sale on Thursday to strong numbers, slightly down from last year's first day, when the company had the highest grossing sale in their 34-year history. Thursday's sessions included a complete dispersal of La Feliz Montana Ranch and a herd reduction for Bobby Cox Ranch.
"We were blessed with extremely good weather. The crowd was great and it was amazing to see all of the countries represented here today," Heritage Place General Manager Jeff Tebow said Thursday evening. "The Racing Quarter Horse business appears to be in great shape as we begin 2012 and we anxiously await the beginning of day 2."
Day one saw 355 horses sale for $3,709,300 for a $10,449 average as compared to 335 head grossing $3,765,300 and averaging $11,240 last year. Total gross receipts were $4,006,100 with 39 repurchases totaling $296,800.
Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch Complete Dispersal was the leading consignor with 64 head grossing $1,444,300. Bobby Cox's Herd Reduction had 67 head sell for $671,800.
Cox also purchased the high seller, First Fervor for $185,000 from Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC. The First Down Dash mare is a full sister to champion First To Flash and the dam of two stakes horses including 2011 Texas Classic Derby(G1) runner-up The Printing Press ($249,640).
The second high-seller, Mr Perrys Wine, also from the Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC consignment, was sold to Robert Marquez for $132,000. The All American Juvenile runner-up by leading sire Mr Jess Perry earned over $105,000 and is a half-sister to 2011 PCQHRA Breeders' Derby(G3) winner Onemoreglassofwine.
Bobby Cox led all buyers with three head for $397,000. The aforementioned Robert Marquez had the one purchase for $132,000 and Abigail K. Kawananakoa purchased a 2-year-old Corona Cartel filly for $130,000.
