Sale Concludes with Solid Numbers - This
year’s sale deemed a success despite slightly lower figures.
AQHA - Oklahoma City - Jan. 22, 2012 - Coming off last year's
highest grossing sale in the company's 34-year history, the 2012
Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale was deemed another success, despite
posting slightly lower numbers.
Last year's Quarter Horse figures included a gross of more than
$9,995,300, compared to $8,605,800 in 2012. Gross sales on all
breeds for 2012 brought $9,995,350, down 9% from 2011. Repurchases
equaled 12% on a total of 1,149 horses of all breeds going through
the ring.
"Overall we feel the 2012 Winter Mixed Sale was a success," Heritage
Place CFO and General Manager Jeff Tebow said Saturday night. "The
crowd remained strong all three days. Quality horses, with good
pedigrees, sold extremely well. We want to thank all of the
consignors and buyers for making the 2012 Winter Mixed Sale a great
auction."
Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch Complete
Dispersal, was the leading consignor with 64 head grossing
$1,444,300. Bobby Cox's Herd Reduction had 67 head sell for
$671,800, and Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent, sold 48 head for $539,700.
Cox purchased the high-seller Hip 215, First Fervor, for $185,000
from Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC. The
First Down Dash mare is a full sister to champion First To Flash and
the dam of two stakes horses, including 2011 Texas Classic Derby
(G1) runner-up The Printing Press ($249,640).
Be Peaceful, dam of world champion Be A Bono and Governor's Cup
Futurity (RG1) winner Peace Fire, was the sale's second-highest
broodmare. Luis Alvarez had the final bid of $165,000 for Hip 476 on
Friday. Roger Daly, agent for Childers Ranch LLC, consigned the
17-year-old daughter of Raise A Secret. She was not bred to carry a
foal for 2012 but does have an embryo due by leading sire Walk Thru
Fire.
Abigail K. Kawananakoa purchased the high-selling horse of racing
age, Significant Heart, a 2-year-old Corona Cartel filly for
$130,000. Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC,
consigned the daughter of Ruidoso Futurity (G1) winner Jess
Significant.
The high-selling "short" yearling was Hip 740, Corona Firewater,
purchased by Terry Stennett for $70,000 from Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent
for Hal Earnhardt III. The colt by leading sire Corona Cartel is out
of Oklahoma Derby (G3) winner Alogonquin, by Invisible Injun.
Bobby Cox was the sale's leading buyer with four head totaling
$407,000. Luis Alvarez purchased seven for $297,200, and Terry
Stennett had three purchases for $235,000.
Corona Cartel led all sale sires by average for "short" yearlings
with four head at $52,750. Champion FDD Dynasty had two for $22,850,
and champion Carters Cartel sold three of $17,900. Champion Foose
led first crop sires of "short" yearlings by average with six for
$14,333. Grade 1 winner Swingin Jess followed with three yearlings
at $11,567.
Stakes winner Coronas Leaving You led all covering sale sires by
average with four mares at $25,800. Leading second crop sire PYC
Paint Your Wagon had six at $22,033, and champion and champion sire
Tres Seis sold two for a $21,750 average.
