Fasig-Tipton's
Big Texas Sale
Grand Prairie, TX- August 29, 2011 - Fasig-Tipton Texas will conduct the largest
single day of selling in its history Aug. 30, when 425 horses are scheduled to
go through the auction ring.
There are 372 head cataloged for the summer yearling sale, which will begin at
10 a.m. (CDT) at the Fasig-Tipton Texas Sales Pavilion, which is located on the
grounds of Lone Star Park. That auction will be followed by phase 3 of the
Heiligbrodt Racing Stable dispersal, which has 53 horses of racing age.
As in recent years, Louisiana-breds dominate the yearling catalog, with 214
prospects from the Bayou State. There also are 52 Oklahoma-breds and 49 Texas-breds.
The catalog has a number of yearlings by first-year sires, including Brother
Derek , Red Giant , Tiz Wonderful , Midnight Lute , and Private Vow.
“If you plan to race in the Southwest, you need to be at this sale,” said Tim
Boyce, director of sales for Fasig-Tipton Texas. “The sale being on Tuesday
gives buyers an extra day to look. Our consigners see the Heiligbrodt horses of
racing age as a new dimension to the day, which they hope will encourage some
new faces on the sales grounds.”
The first phase of the Heiligbrodt dispersal was held immediately following the
Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July select yearling and generated an average price of
$40,404 and a median price of $29,000 for the 73 horses that were sold.
Among the sires represented in phase 3’s catalog are Bwana Charlie , Closing
Argument , Officer, and Tiznow . Houston, Texas-based Bill and Corinne
Heiligbrodt have been perennially among the leading owners in the Lone Star
State and their horses have been prominent nationally.
