Court orders sale of Yavapai Downs
Nov. 22, 2011 - Early last spring, it became apparent that there would be no horse racing or County Fair at Yavapai Downs in 2011, which was buried in debt and property taxes. Now, according to an article in the Arizona Republic, "Court Orders Yavapai Downs Sale," U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Redfield T. Baum has ordered the sale of Yavapai Downs.
Cunningham & Associates is the firm chosen to manage the sale of the property. Included in the sale are the naming rights, all intellectual property, the domains, website, customer list and more.
Sale description:
"Yavapai Downs has a deep history in Arizona horse racing. There are only two metro areas in Arizona that have supported horse racing over the past several decades, Arizona’s current capital, Phoenix and Arizona’s first capital, Prescott. Yavapai Downs history started back in 1913 when the State Fair was held in Prescott.
"The new facility, is a modern track with huge potential. It has a liquor license, great restaurant facilities and the ability to expand to allow for other forms of gaming.
"The features of the facility include:
Located on 125+/- acres. Permanent outdoors arena that is 300’ x 600’.
Race Track for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing.
Stalls for close to 1,200 horses.
Large grandstands spanning 85,000 sq. ft. and can handle 5,000 to 10,000 people.
Motor racing facility for car and motorcycle racing

Yavapai Downs is made up of 8 parcels totaling 125 acres, and has been assessed at $18.2 million. There are also assets worth millions of dollars, which will be sold to help pay off creditors.
