Change in the works at SHRP
Houston, TX - Dec. 8, 2011 - Hope thrives in the
hearts of horse people. When they arrive at Sam Houston Race Park on
Jan. 20, opening night for live racing, they can add change to their
hope.
Two changes will impact every customer:
Though the TV screen count will rise only slightly from 1,640,
hundreds of larger, LED screens will replace older models. The
screens show year-round simulcast events as well as SHRP's live
races.
Work crews are installing accordion-type partitions on the first
floor. The 10-foot-tall partitions will seal off about 40 percent of
the building's south end. From partition tops to the first-floor
roof, workers will install permanent metal facing.
The 18-year-old facility's open space invites energy waste and
soaring electric bills. Track officials expect partitions to
increase energy efficiency without cramping customers.
On lighter attendance days - Monday through Wednesday and probably
Thursday - the partitions will be closed. Customers will have access
to only the first floor's remaining 60 percent of space.
