Sunland Park (Grade I) winner Cold Cash 123 named 2011 World
Champion Quarter Horse Sunland Park, NM - Jan. 21, 2012 - $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (Gr. 1) winner Cold Cash 123 was named 2011 World Champion Quarter Horse by the American Quarter Horse Association. The world’s best Quarter Horse was one of three Sunland Park horses to earn major titles. Trained by C. Dwayne “Sleepy” Gilbreath, Cold Cash 123 raced to Grade 1 victories in the Rainbow Derby at Ruidoso Downs, the Texas Classic Derby at Lone Star Park and the Championship at Sunland Park. He won six of eight races last year, including five of six at 440 yards. His victory at Sunland Park cemented the title. The gelded son of Oak Tree Special rocketed through 400 yards in 18.733 seconds, the second-fastest time ever clocked for that distance. Cold Cash 123 earned $818,447 through his championship year. He was also named overall champion three-year-old and champion three-year-old gelding. Cold Cash 123 is owned and bred by Carolyn and Walter Bay of the T Bill Stables from Clare, Michigan. Sunland Park stakes winner Rylees Boy was named the champion aged gelding. The model of consistency won the Bank of America Sunland Challenge Championship last spring for owner-trainer Gerardo Ochoa-Pena. The six-year-old also won the Remington Park Invitational (Gr. I) and was third in the Championship at Sunland Park behind Cold Cash 123. Prospect to the Top, Sunland’s 2011 West Texas Derby winner, ended up with the champion three-year-old colt title. The bay speedball earned over $413,000 for owner Joel Tavarez of Odessa, Texas last year. | ||
