Champion, Grade 1 Horses Supplemented To Ruidoso Derbies

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM - Feb. 12, 2012 – Recently named champion two-year-old colt Feature Mr Bojangles, Los Alamitos Winter Derby fastest-qualifier Deniro and two-time grade 1 qualifier Fast Prize Jordan have been supplemented to the record-setting grade 1 derbies this summer at Ruidoso Downs.

The projected purses of $750,000 for the Ruidoso Derby, $1,000,000 for the Rainbow Derby and $2,300,000 for the All American Derby are all-time records for each race.

Each of the horse’s connections made the February 1 supplemental payment to gain eligibility.

Owned by R.D. Hubbard, Jim Helzer, S/M Cattle Export Company and Jaime Dominguez, Feature Mr Bojangles was supplemented to the Ruidoso Derby. The Roberto Sanchez-trained colt is already eligible to the Rainbow Derby and the All American Derby. The Feature Mr Jess son won last summer’s Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity and his All American Futurity trial before winning the Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity. He was second in his career debut and has reeled off six straight wins to earn his championship title.

Shane O’Leary’s Deniro was supplemented to the All American Derby and the Rainbow Derby. The Ugo De La Torre-trained gelding impressed in his Los Alamitos debut on January 28 when he set the fastest-qualifying time to the Grade 1, $197,000 Los Alamitos Winter Derby. The Desiro son dominated his trial by one length with a :19.518 time for 400 yards.

Weetona Stanley and William Smith’s Fast Prize Jordan was supplemented to the All American Derby. The Heath Taylor-trained son of PYC Paint Your Wagon has won four of seven starts and qualified for the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity and the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity.

The February 1 supplemental fee for the Ruidoso Derby was $15,000, the Rainbow Derby supplemental fee was $20,000 and the All American Derby supplemental fee was $25,000.
