Canterbury Park’s 2012 Thoroughbred Stakes Schedule - Stall Apps due February 10th Shakopee, MN - February 2, 2012 - Canterbury Park’s 2012 thoroughbred stakes schedule features 26 races worth $1.12 million in purses. The 62-day race meet begins Friday night, May 18 and concludes Monday, Sept. 3. The 19th Minnesota Festival of Champions, a day dedicated to the Minnesota breeding industry, is Sept. 2. The six-race stakes line-up offers $310,000 in purse money. The second annual Fillies Race for Hope is Saturday, Aug. 4. This breast cancer awareness fund-raiser will again benefit Hope Chest for Breast Cancer, a local organization whose mission is to help under-served or financially distressed individuals and their families touched by breast cancer. Planned for the day are nine races for fillies and mares including the Lady Canterbury, Hoist Her Flag, and Princess Elaine Stakes. “The outpouring of support on Fillies Race for Hope day was amazing,” track president Randy Sampson said. “The goal was to bring horsemen and our fans together for a common cause while engaging the community at large. It was a huge success and will be again this summer.” Canterbury Park supports the community and Minnesota horse industry through charitable donations and its Minnesota Fund.
