Barretts October
posts double-digit gains
Pomona, CA - Oct. 13, 2011 - The
two-day Barretts Equine Ltd. October yearling sale concluded
Wednesday with gains in total sales, average price, and median at
Fairplex Park in Pomona, California.
Two colts sold for $100,000 on Tuesday night to top the October
yearling sale and helped lead increases in total sales, average
price, and median for the opening session.
Cumulatively for the two-day sale, Barretts reported 154 yearlings
as sold for $2,599,700, up 15% compared with the 2010 October
yearling sale. Average price rose 19.5% to $16,881, and median
improved 8.3% to $9,750. Perhaps the one disappointment was a 30.3%
buy-back rate, up significantly from 19.2% in 2010.
The first $100,000 colt, by Unusual Heat out of Chi Chi Nette, by
Ole’, was purchased about midway through the opening session by Eric
Kruljac, agent for Class Racing Stable.
The second $100,000 colt sold six horses later when Mike Pender,
agent, secured a Kentucky-bred colt by Afleet Alex. Consigned by
Adrian Gonzalez’s Checkmate Thoroughbreds, agent, the colt is out of
stakes winner and $251,320-earner Desiraes My Candy, by Candy
Stripes.
The sale was bolstered by Tuesday’s very strong opening session.
Barretts reported 59 of 71 yearlings offered as sold for $1,569,000,
up 49.2% from last year’s total of $1,051,500 for 57 yearlings sold.
The session’s average was $26,593, an increase of 44.2%, while
median rose 100% to $20,000.
After the stellar start on Tuesday, Wednesday’s second session was
not as strong as Barretts reported 95 yearlings as sold for
$1,030,700, down 14.7% from the comparable 2010 session. Similarly,
average price dipped 7.6% to $10,849 and median declined 25.4% to
$5,000. Read More:
