- A total of 370 state-bred Thoroughbreds
and Quarter Horses have been consigned to
this year's New Mexico-Bred Sale, set for
August 19-20 at the Ruidoso Horse Sale
Pavilion at Ruidoso Downs.
The Quarter Horse portion of the sale will
take place on August 19, followed by the
Thoroughbred portion the following day. The
Thoroughbred sale will begin with a Select
sale, during which 45 select yearlings will
be offered for sale.
On both dates, the sale will begin shortly
after the end of the live racing program at
Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.
Once again, Double LL Farms at Bosque, New
Mexico, is the leading consigner with 53
yearlings, of which 45 are Quarter Horses.
Other top consigners include A & A Ranch,
Anjora Corp., Buena Suerte Equine, Crystal
Springs Farm, JEH Stallion Station, MJ
Farms, and Weatherly Horse Farms.
Located in Anthony, New Mexico, Weatherly
Horse Farms is the leading Thoroughbred
consigner with 27 yearlings.
Desert God, last year's leading sire of New
Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds, will be
represented by four yearlings, three of whom
will be offered during the Select portion of
the sale.
Also, 2010 leading New Mexico Quarter Horse
sire Sixes Royal will be represented by
seven yearlings, including an unnamed colt
who is a half brother to stakes winner Love
To Finish First.
I Play Dirty,
a $1,200 purchase by Joe Dee Brooks of
Levelland, Texas, at last year's New
Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale, has to date
earned $64,694 from four starts, and his two
wins include the colts and geldings division
of the $113,987 Copper Top Thoroughbred
Futurity (R) at Sunland Park on April 16.
