Senorita, Senor Trials Set For
Sunday at Ruidoso Downs
RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (July 15, 2011) – Copper Top
Futurity Fillies Division winner Roll Bloomers Roll
returns in the trials to the $156,289 Rio Grande
Senorita Futurity and Mountain Top Futurity third-place
runner Band Of Glory tops the trials to the $149,249 Rio
Grande Senor Futurity on Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso
Downs.
The Senorita Futurity is for New Mexico-bred fillies
while the Senor Futurity is for New Mexico-bred males.
The qualifiers from the trials return for their
respective finals during the Zia Festival program on
July 31 at Ruidoso Downs.
The Zia Festival celebrates New Mexico and offers a full
card of New Mexico-bred racing with the Senorita
Futurity and the Senor Futurity presenting the largest
thoroughbred purses on the program. The grandstand is
filled with vendors offering arts and crafts from
throughout the Land of Enchantment.
The Senor and Senorita trials will be held over
five-and-one-half furlongs. The Senorita trials run as
the second, sixth and eighth races. The Senor trials
will be held as the third, fifth and seventh races.
Rita Danley’s homebred Roll Bloomers Roll makes her
first appearance in the Senorita Futurity since her 27-1
upset win in the Copper Top Futurity Fillies Division on
April 16 at Sunland Park. The Fred Danley-trained filly
was able to rally off of fast fractions to win the
four-and-one-half furlong dash by more than one length.
Vicente Grajeda was aboard for that win and gets the
mount on Sunday afternoon with the ninth post position
in the sixth race.
Todd White’s homebred Rio Fresco heads the second race
after finishing in third place state-bred fillies in the
C.O. Ken Kendrick Memorial Stakes at SunRay Park on June
26. She set the pace before settling for third in the
four-and-one-half furlong sprint.
Trainer Alex Hartman will have Jesse Jimenez Garcia
aboard Rio Fresco with the ninth post position.
In the Senor Futurity trials, Sonny Henderson’s Band Of
Glory tries to back up his third-place run in the
$136,000 Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso Downs as a
22-1 outsider. The son of Minister Eric reached the
Mountain Top Futurity finals after finishing second in
his trial while making his first career start.
Grajeda picks up the mount with the ninth post position
in the fifth race.
