Sammy James Looks To Step Up In Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM (June 16, 2011) – Isbeel Charolais’ Sammy James looks to realize the potential he displayed during his fastest-qualifying trial win when he races in the $276,609 Mountain Top Futurity for New Mexico-bred quarter horses on Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

The 9-race program starts at 1 p.m. with the 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity running as the eighth race.

There is always free parking and free general admission at Ruidoso Downs.

The Blane Wood-trained Sammy James has improved in each of his two starts and could become a stakes winner in the Mountain Top Futurity. The $20,000 Ruidoso Yearling Sale purchase exhibited stakes-winning promise when he won his Mountain Top Futurity trial by three quarters of a length and covered the 350 yards in :17.550, the fastest time from the eight trials.

Sammy James drew the inside post position in the 10-horse field and will have regular rider Ricky Ramirez aboard.

J and M Racing and Farm’s Call Me A Blazn Chic was second behind Sammy James in their trial and recorded the second-fastest qualifying mark of :17.661 for trainer Roberto Sanchez. The Chicks A Blazin daughter is a maiden after two starts.

Alfonso Rivera is aboard Call Me A Blazn Chic with the third post position.

Felipe Flores Sr.’s Perfect Crime brings the experience of three wins and a troubled eighth-place finish in the New Mexican Spring Futurity from four starts into the Mountain Top Futurity.

Perfect Crime, trained by Felipe Flores Jr., won his first two outs and was respected at 3-1 odds in the New Mexican Spring Futurity. After that troubled race he followed by winning his Mountain Top Futurity trial by one-and-one-quarter lengths in :17.806.

Jacky Martin rides Perfect Crime with the fifth post position.
