Sammy James Looks To Step Up In
Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso
RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM (June 16, 2011) – Isbeel Charolais’ Sammy James
looks to realize the potential he displayed during his
fastest-qualifying trial win when he races in the $276,609 Mountain
Top Futurity for New Mexico-bred quarter horses on Sunday afternoon
at Ruidoso Downs.
The 9-race program starts at 1 p.m. with the 350-yard Mountain Top
Futurity running as the eighth race.
There is always free parking and free general admission at Ruidoso
Downs.
The Blane Wood-trained Sammy James has improved in each of his two
starts and could become a stakes winner in the Mountain Top
Futurity. The $20,000 Ruidoso Yearling Sale purchase exhibited
stakes-winning promise when he won his Mountain Top Futurity trial
by three quarters of a length and covered the 350 yards in :17.550,
the fastest time from the eight trials.
Sammy James drew the inside post position in the 10-horse field and
will have regular rider Ricky Ramirez aboard.
J and M Racing and Farm’s Call Me A Blazn Chic was second behind
Sammy James in their trial and recorded the second-fastest
qualifying mark of :17.661 for trainer Roberto Sanchez. The Chicks A
Blazin daughter is a maiden after two starts.
Alfonso Rivera is aboard Call Me A Blazn Chic with the third post
position.
Felipe Flores Sr.’s Perfect Crime brings the experience of three
wins and a troubled eighth-place finish in the New Mexican Spring
Futurity from four starts into the Mountain Top Futurity.
Perfect Crime, trained by Felipe Flores Jr., won his first two outs
and was respected at 3-1 odds in the New Mexican Spring Futurity.
After that troubled race he followed by winning his Mountain Top
Futurity trial by one-and-one-quarter lengths in :17.806.
Jacky Martin rides Perfect Crime with the fifth post position.
