Humble Smarty Tops Lea County Sprint Stakes at Zia Park

Hobbs, NM – Nov. 10, 2011 - Humble Smarty, a 7-year-old gelding owned and trained by Brett Creighton, is one of five runners entered in Sunday's 5 1/2-furlong, $55,000 Lea County Sprint Stakes at Zia Park.

Humble Smarty is coming off of an upset victory in the September 30, $100,000 David M. Vance Sprint Stakes at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. The Arkansas-bred son of the Seeking The Gold stallion Mutakddim has earned $102,330 from seven starts this season, and his two wins include a 5-furlong, $35,000 overnight stakes at Canterbury Park in May.

Humble Smarty shipped to Zia Park from Oklahoma after posting a 4-furlong work in :46.81 at Remington on November 3, the fastest of 22 drills at the distance that day.

Also entered in the Lea County Stakes is Brad and Kim Bingham's Kineticat Yankee, a 7-year-old gelding by Tale Of The Cat trained by Chris Hartman. Kineticat Yankee was campaigned at Ruidoso Downs last summer, where he defeated a field of Quarter Horses in the 870-yard Master Salls Handicap on July 30.

Kineticat Yankee ran second, a neck behind winner Ducky Drake, in last year's Lea County Sprint Stakes.

The complete field, in post position order including jockey and weight assignments – Lion Hall (Juan Ochoa, 116), Humble Smarty (Dean Butler, 123), Kineticat Yankee (Ry Eikleberry, 123), Jam'n Jackson (Alejandro Medellin, 118), and Pack Your Bags (Miguel Hernandez, 119).
