HALL-OF-FAME TRAINER JERRY HOLLENDORFER NOMINATES FOUR TO $65,000 EMERALD DISTAFF

AUBURN, Wash. (Aug. 7) – Fourteen older fillies and mares—including four from the powerful Jerry Hollendorfer stable—have been nominated to the $65,000 Emerald Distaff to be run Sunday, Aug. 21. That total is up substantially from both 2009 and 2010 when nine horses were nominated to the Emerald Distaff.

At 1-1/8 miles, the 16th running of the Distaff is the meet’s championship event for older fillies and mares and half of a stakes doubleheader that features the 76th running of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3).

This season’s older filly and mare division has featured large fields and big payoffs, even though You Me and Ema B has won two of the first three events. Trained by Margo Lloyd, the 4-year-old You Me and Ema B has a 4-0-0 record in five lifetime starts, including a $23.20 upset in the six-furlong Hastings Handicap and a $16 score in the one-mile Boeing Handicap. Nine furlongs will mark her farthest race to date, but the daughter of You and I continues to train well and could be up to the task.

Hollendorfer has been a major force in recent Emerald Distaff history while winning the race with Secret Corsage (2005), Gemstone Rush (2007) and Lemon Kiss (2008). Christmas Ship finished third for Hollendorfer the last two years.

Hollendorfer has nominated Lilly Fa Pootz, U R All That I Am, Washington Bridge and Waynetta to the 2011 Distaff. Lilly Fa Pootz, who began her career at Emerald Downs, has developed into a steady stakes performer on turf in Southern California, where one of her best races was a second beaten a nose in the 2010 John C. Mabee Stakes (G2) at Del Mar. U R All That I Am is 10-for-27 lifetime and has won five stakes in California including three at Hollywood Park. Washington Bridge has competed in a string of graded races and won the 2010 Bayakoa Handicap (G2) at Hollywood Park.

Kimmyv, the 2010 Emerald Distaff winner, is among three Canadian-based runners nominated to the race, a contingent that includes the rapidly improving 5-year-old Dashing Daisy.

Weights will be released Saturday, Aug. 13 with entries taken Wednesday, Aug. 17. The winner will receive $35,750.
