Double Chiseled,
Noconi Put Wins Streak on Line in Zia Park QH
Championship
Hobbs, NM December 1, 2011 -
Graded stakes winners Double Chiseled and Noconi will
put their two-race win streaks on the line in Sunday's
440-yard, $150,000 Zia Park Quarter Horse Championship
(G1).
A 5-year-old gelding by SC Chiseled
In Stone racing for Top Roustabouts and Backhoe Service,
Double Chiseled is coming off of victories in the
400-yard, $55,000 Lovington Stakes (G2) on November 6,
and the 350-yard, $55,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes (G3)
on September 17.
Noconi is the reigning American
Quarter Horse Association champion aged gelding, as the
6-year-old son of Mr Jess Perry won four stakes last
season for owner R.D. Hubbard, including the Zia Park
Championship. Racing at Ruidoso Downs last summer,
Noconi won the 350-yard, $30,000 Higheasterjet Handicap
(G3) on July 3, and the 440-yard, $40,000 All American
Gold Cup (G3) on September 4.
Two 3-year-olds have been entered
in the Zia Park Championship, including Joel Tavarez's
Prospect To The Top. The sophomore colt by Coronas
Prospect will be making his first start since October 9,
when he scored a 1 1/4-length victory in the 440-yard,
$155,000 Hobbs America Derby (G3) at Zia.
All horses have been assigned to
carry 126 pounds. The complete lineup, in post position
order including jockey assignments and one also-eligible
entry Time For A Cigar (G.R. Carter Jr.), Jess A
Runner (Oscar Rincon), Double Chiseled (Sergio
Rodriguez), I Am That Hero (Roberto Valero), Sir Seth
(Salvador Martinez), A Spring Snow (Esgar Ramirez),
Celtic Classic (Vicente Grajeda), Prospect To The Top
(Roman Chapa), Strike It Quick (Freddie Martinez),
Noconi (Ramon Sanchez), and AE-Kool Cade (Rodrigo Aceves).
