Copper Top Winner I Play Dirty
Heads Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity
RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 23, 2011) – The Todd Fincher-trained
Copper Top Futurity winner I Play Dirty joins trial-winning
stable-mate Scootonover in the $136,426 Mountain Top New Mexico-Bred
Thoroughbred Futurity on Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
First post time for the 9-race program is 1 p.m. with the 5-furlong
Mountain Top Futurity running as the eighth race. There is always
free parking and free general admission at Ruidoso Downs.
Joe Dee Brooks’ I Play Dirty, a $1,200 Ruidoso Yearling Sale
purchase, earned the bulk of his $61,294 in earnings when he won the
Copper Top Futurity at Sunland Park on April 16. The gelded son of
Roll Hennessy Roll stalked the leaders and then gamely raced to the
neck win.
I Play Dirty backed up that stakes win with an easy win in his
Mountain Top Futurity trial. He went to the front soon after the
start and steadily increased his lead to win by more than four
lengths.
Juan Ochoa was aboard for the trial win and rides with the inside
post position in the Mountain Top Futurity.
Scootonover shoots for his third win from three starts in the
Mountain Top Futurity. He followed his maiden score at Sunland Park
with a neck victory in his Mountain Top Futurity trial. He showed
his grit by prevailing by a neck when he was threatened in the
stretch.
Dusty Shepherd rides Scootonover with the second post position.
My Homey could gain the favorite’s role after a devastating
11-length win in his Mountain Top Futurity trial. The Papis
Hermenegildo-trained gelding was the even-money favorite in that
trial after finishing third to I Play Dirty as the 2-1 favorite in
the Copper Top Futurity.
Jorge Martin Bourdieu has ridden My Homey in each of his four starts
and retains the mount with the seventh post position.
