Fast Movin Vic In Deep Trials To Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 12, 2011) – David Barrett’s homebred Fast Movin Vic , winner of last summer’s John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge, heads the third of three trials to the 400-yard Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge on Friday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

The trials will be contested as the first three races on the 9-race card. First post time is 1 p.m. with free parking and free general admission.

Fast Movin Vic runs in the third trial and is making his second start after a 5-month layoff. The Fred Danley-trained gelding raced to a sixth-place finish behind Llano Teller and Dominyun in their Ruidoso Derby trial on May 28 at 9-2 odds. Llano Teller and Dominyun then returned to finish first and second in the Grade 1, $702,000 Ruidoso Derby last Saturday.

A year ago, Fast Movin Vic stood out in the Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge when he won by one-half length as the odds-on favorite.

Trainer Fred Danley has named Jacky Martin to ride Fast Movin Vic when they start from the inside post position.

Don Boyle and Wade Siegel’s BF Farm Boy heads the first trial after a Grade 1 campaign at Los Alamitos Race Course last fall. The Paul Jones-trained colt qualified for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity at the Southern California track.

BF Farm Boy prepared for his trip to Ruidoso Downs with a three-quarter-length allowance win in a quick :17.360 for 350 yards at Los Alamitos on May 14.

Ramon Sanchez was up for that allowance win and gets the riding assignment with the second post position.

The Juan Esquivel-owned and -trained DM Strait comes off a close third-place finish in the West Texas Derby to top the second trial. The gelding finished a neck behind Prospect To The Top in the West Texas Derby and Prospect To The Top came back to earn 2-1 favoritism in the Ruidoso Derby.

DM Strait was the fourth-place finisher in the John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge behind Fast Movin Vic last summer.

Ricky Ramirez rides DM Strait for the first time with the fourth post position.
